Ken Coleman covers Southeast Michigan, economic justice and civil rights for Michigan Advance, a Lansing-based news site. The Detroit native has attended Morris Brown College and Wayne State University. Ken is a former Michigan Chronicle senior editor and has served as an American Black Journal segment host on Detroit Public Television. His work has been cited by the Detroit News, Detroit Free Press, History Channel and CNN. He has penned features that have been published in BLAC Detroit and Hour Detroit magazines.
Additionally, he has written essays for the award-winning book, Detroit 1967: Origins, Impacts, Legacies and I.Detroit: A Human Atlas of an American City. Ken has served as a spokesperson for the Michigan Democratic Party, Detroit Public Schools, U.S. Sen. Gary Peters, U.S. Rep. Brenda Lawrence, and the Detroit Federation of Teachers. He is a Historical Society of Michigan trustee, a National Association of Black Journalists member, and a Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metropolitan Detroit advisory board member.
